Preparing Your Child for Nursery: Our Settling in Process

Starting nursery is a big step for both children and parents. At our nursery, we understand that every child is unique, and we are here to make the transition as smooth and comfortable as possible. Our settling-in process is designed to help your child feel safe, happy, and confident in their new environment.

A Gentle 3-Day Introduction-

We use a gradual three-day settling-in approach, giving children the chance to adjust at their own pace:

Day One: You will spend the first hour with your child, meeting their keyworker and helping your child settle in. During this time, we will also complete documents detailing your child’s likes, dislikes, and developmental milestones. This helps us tailor activities and care to your child’s individual needs.
Day Two: Your child will stay at the nursery for two hours while you step away. This allows them to explore their surroundings, build connections with staff, and begin forming friendships.
Day Three: Your child will stay for three hours. By this point, most children feel comfortable and ready to begin their nursery routine.

If your child still finds the transition challenging, we offer additional settling-in sessions free of charge. Our goal is to ensure that every child feels confident and supported before starting full sessions.

Staying Connected-

We encourage families to stay in touch during the settling-in period. Parents can call the nursery anytime to check on their child’s progress or message their child’s keyworker directly through our parent app. This helps maintain reassurance and keeps you updated on your child’s experiences throughout the day.

What to Pack for Nursery-

To make your child’s day comfortable, please provide the following, all clearly labelled:

Two spare sets of clothes – accidents and spills are normal, and we want your child to feel clean and comfortable
Water bottle or beaker
Milk bottles (if needed)
Hats, gloves, scarves (seasonal)
Comforters or special items that help your child feel secure

We provide bedding for all children, so you don’t need to pack blankets or sheets.
